If you're experiencing issues with your microphone, speakers, or camera in Microsoft Teams, try the following troubleshooting steps.
1. Check Your Device Settings in Teams
-
Open Microsoft Teams.
-
Click on your 3 dots icon next to your profile picture in the top-right corner.
-
Go to Settings > Devices.
-
Ensure the correct Microphone, Speaker, and Camera are selected. The built in microphone and speakers are what you usually want unless you have a headset/speakers. The picture below shows the default settings.
-
Use the Make a test call option to check audio quality.
2. Check Your System Sound Settings
-
Right-click the sound icon in the taskbar and select Sound settings.
-
Ensure the correct input/output device is selected.
-
Test the microphone and speakers.
3. Ensure Camera and Microphone Permissions Are Enabled
-
Open Settings > Privacy & security.
-
Under App permissions, select Microphone and Camera.
-
Ensure Teams is allowed to access these devices.
4. Restart Teams and Your Computer
-
Close Teams completely by right-clicking the Teams icon in the system tray and selecting Quit.
-
Restart your computer and reopen Teams.
5. Update or Reinstall Teams
-
Follow the Updating Microsoft Teams article.
-
If the issue persists, uninstall and reinstall Teams.
6. Check for Interference from Other Apps
-
Ensure no other applications (e.g., Zoom, Skype) are using the camera or microphone at the same time.
-
Close unnecessary applications and restart Teams.
7. Update Drivers Through SupportAssist
-
Open SupportAssist (Search for it in the search bar on the bottom of your screen).
-
Click Update Software to check for updates.
-
If an update is available for audio or camera drivers, install it.
-
Restart your computer after updating.
8. Check for Physical Obstructions
-
Ensure your webcam cover is not blocking the camera.
-
If using an external camera, check that it is properly connected.
9. Contact IT Support
-
If the issue persists, reach out to IT for further assistance.
